The book swiftly takes him out of Sacred Valley and all the way to its edge, making friends like Suriel, a divine celestial being, and Yerin, a dedicated Sword artist at the Gold level, along the way. It’s like the book channels Lindon’s impatience, his thirst for achieving new heights. Unsouled, and the entire Cradle series moves at breakneck speed. No one’s laughing when he starts burning Blackflame madra and his eyes are basically on fire or whatever, but we have a ways to go before then. That being said, Lindon is more or less depicted as an oaf throughout the books. Lindon is a truly refreshing character to read, and you feel absolutely no qualms about rooting for him, every step of the way. They do not expect to see cheating, trickery or shortcuts, they do not prepare for it, and therefore they are not prepared for Lindon. In a society that places a painful amount of value on the concept of “honour”, Lindon shines as an example of the unexpected. Through wiles and trickery, he finds ways to survive in a society that has all but cast him out. Rather, Lindon is stubborn and determined to the point of stupidity. And I don’t mean it in the sense of yet-another-Chosen-One-saga. “There is no affinity to his spirit,” the First Elder says at last, and those close enough to hear gasp. This is the greatest calamity that can befall a child of Sacred Valley, where everyone is a sacred artist, using their madra, power of their soul, to create, fight, and “control the forces of the natural world.”
